  • 90041210JG015_PISTONS_SIXERSPHILADELPHIA(AP) Rodney Stuckey scored 27 points and hit the winner with 8.7 seconds left to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 90-86 win over Philadelphia on Wednesday night, the 76ers’ 11th straight loss. Allen Iverson scored 11 points in his second game with the Sixers. He hit the tying jumper with 1:06 left that made it 86-all. Stuckey had the ball stripped by Andre Iguodala, but he grabbed the loose ball and tossed it in for the go-ahead basket with 1 second left on the shot clock. Iguodala went for the win, but his 3-point attempt was no good. He scored 18 points. Iverson is 0-5 this season – three losses with Memphis; two with the 76ers. Iverson missed seven of 10 shots from the floor and had three assists. The Pistons won without their top three stars. Guard Ben Gordon sat out with a sprained left ankle, and they had been playing without Richard Hamilton (ankle) and Tayshaun Prince (back).

So much for Iverson being the Answer.  A.I. has 22 points in 2 games so for those people who thought we were getting back the same old Iverson I just want you to realize that the old A.I. used to average 22 points in the first 3 quarters of a game.  I love the guy but its clear now that the only reason they brought him back was to put people in the seats.  When your losing to the Pistons and they don’t have Ben Gordon, Rip Hamilton, or Tayshaun Prince your teams not going anywhere.  Now granite the sixers have their fair share of inuries but lets be honest when were at full strength and the Pistons are at full strength they’d still run us off the court.  I love Iverson, but I’m not going to be 100% sold on this move until the sixers start winning some games.

deshaun and reidAndy Reid has said time and time again that he wants to coach the Eagles “as long as they allow me to coach here.” Well, the Eagles want the same thing. The team announced on Wednesday morning that Reid, the team’s head coach and executive vice president of football operations, has signed a contract extension through the 2013 campaign. Said the statement: ”Since being named head coach on January 11, 1999, Reid has compiled the best win total (115), winning percentage (.611) and playoffs victory total (10) in team history. He has captured five division titles and five trips to the NFC Championship game, while earning playoff berths in seven of his first 10 seasons. In that time span, no team has earned more divisional round playoff appearances (7) or championship game appearances (5) than Reid’s Eagles. “Reid, who earned NFL coach of the year honors following the 2000 and 2002 campaigns, was hired by the Eagles after a two-year tenure as quarterbacks coach of the Green Bay Packers. He spent his first seven NFL seasons as an assistant coach under Mike Holmgren in Green Bay after a 13-year stint as a coach in the collegiate ranks. In his 17-year NFL coaching career, his teams have made the playoffs 13 times (19-12 record). He has coached in the Super Bowl three times and in the NFC Championship game eight times. Now in his 11th season as head coach in Philadelphia, Reid is the second-longest tenured head coach in NFL behind Tennessee’s Jeff Fisher (16 years) and the 8th longest tenured coach in professional sports behind Jerry Sloan (Utah Jazz), Bobby Cox (Atlanta Braves), Fisher, Tony LaRussa (St. Louis Cardinals), Gregg Popovich (San Antonio Spurs), Lindy Ruff (Buffalo Sabres), and Barry Trotz (Nashville Predators). Reid is one of just four active coaches (Bill Belichick, Tom Coughlin, and Fisher) with 100 regular season victories. In addition, his winning percentage ranks 14th in NFL history among all coaches with at least 100 games under their belt, while his 115 overall wins rank 31st in NFL history. “From 2000-09, only two coaches have recorded more regular season wins than Reid’s 100 – Bill Belichick (109) and Tony Dungy (104). In fact, the Eagles became just the 4th team in NFL history to amass 100-or-more wins in a decade with just one head coach, joining Belichick’s Patriots (2000s), Tom Landry’s Cowboys (1970s), and Don Shula’s Dolphins (1970s). “Seven of Reid’s former assistant coaches are currently head coaches or coordinators with others teams: Brad Childress (head coach, Minnesota), John Harbaugh (head coach, Baltimore), Steve Spagnuolo (head coach, St. Louis), Pat Shurmur (offensive coordinator, St. Louis), Leslie Frazier (defensive coordinator, Minnesota), Dave Toub (special teams coordinator, Chicago), and Ron Rivera (defensive coordinator, San Diego). Reid’s squads have been particulary effective down the stretch during his tenure as he owns a 70-39-1 (.641) mark in games in November and beyond (including playoffs) and a 51-34-1 (.599) regular season road record. His 10 playoff wins are tied for 11th in league history. Of the 14 coaches who have won 10 or more playoff games, only Belichick (.789), Bill Walsh (.714), Joe Gibbs (.708), Chuck Noll (.667), and George Seifert (.667) have amassed a higher winning percentage in the postseason than Reid’s .588 (10-7).”

I think this was a no brainer Reid is the best coach in Team History, and he clearly deserves a raise just for that, who knows where this franchise would be if the Eagles didn’t hire Reid a decade ago.  The thing that cracks me up is when philly sports fans who are uneducated on the sport of football call in on talk radio and bash Reid saying hes a horrible coach.  Maybe if they watch other teams play like the Browns, Lions, Raiders week in and week out they will see just how good of a coach Andy Reid really is. Just because the Eagles haven’t won a Super Bowl in EVER!!! doesn’t mean Reid is a bad coach, and it also doesn’t mean McNabb is a bad quarterback. If you claim to be a big Eagles fan and you don’t like Reid or you don’t like McNabb or you don’t like both of them than I can’t consider you a true fan.  True fans of sports teams like the best coaches and the best players in the franchises history nomatter what they’ve won or lost.  For Example do you think Lions fans love Barry Sanders, yes ofcourse they do.  Did Barry Sanders ever win a super Bowl? Nope. Do Miami Dolphins fans love Dan Marino? Yup Did he ever win a super bowl? Nope. I can go on and on the fact of the matter is both of these guys are great and they play right here in Philly for our Eagles and they don’t apreciate to be ripped on like they have been the past decade. As a true fan of the Eagles and after all the success that this Franchise has had during Reid and McNabb’s tenure I’d like them both to stick around as long as possible. Do I want a Super Bowl? Ofcourse, but if you asked me if I’d take the past decade as an Eagles fan or the past decade of a fan of about 24 other NFL teams I’m taking the Eagles. EAGLES ALL THE WAY! ENJOY IT!

88972241KC047_PHILADELPHIA_ATLANTA — Three straight wins, and now the Eagles are 8-4. They played as well as they have played all season in a blowout 34-7 win over Atlanta on Sunday, and, well, the Eagles are in a familiar place. They are rolling. They are making a surge at exactly the right time, and isn’t it grand? Philadelphia should have blown out the Falcons and they did. NFC East, here we come! Again. “This is something that has been happening for us for years,” said quarterback Donovan McNabb, who completed 14 of 25 passes for 238 yards and a touchdown. “You go through the first part of the year where you are getting that chemistry and getting that timing and things going. This is the time of the year that people remember. You never remember September, October. You always keep your mind on November, December and January because, if you have that opportunity, you want to go into the playoffs and hit it rolling.” Well, the Eagles are rolling. Oh, they have blemishes, but they are winning. And every phase of this young, at times makeshift team, is chipping in.

I said it all along this team would finish the season 11-5 even when they were a 500 team I told people you just wait and see this team has yet to show their best.  McNabb is playing well hes using all of his offensive weapons, the coach is being very aggressive going for more fourth downs in the past 3 weeks than I can ever remember him going for, and the defense has been coming up with big stops in big situations especially in the red zone.  This team had all the potential in the world when the season starting now their puting all that potential and talent together and playing as a team.  I think were going to wind up winning the NFC EAST again and wind up being the number 3 seed in the playoffs, which means we will have a home playoff game week one, but then we would have to play the rest of our playoff games on the road which I have no probelm with seeing what we did at New York and Minnesota last season.  This team is going places people that gave up on this team 3 or 4 weeks ago shouldn’t have the skys the limit for this team. ENJOY IT!

laviolette The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have named Peter Laviolette head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers and relieved John Stevens of his duties, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.Laviolette, 45, is the 17th head coach in Flyers history and joins Philadelphia after spending parts of five seasons as head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes (2003-04 to 2008-09), where he compiled a 167-122-34 record in 323 games. In 2005-06, he led the Hurricanes to a 52-22-8 regular season record finishing first place in the Southeast Division and setting franchise records in wins (52) and points (112) in a single season. In the 2006 Stanley Cup playoffs, Laviolette guided Carolina to a 16-9 record and their first Stanley Cup Championship, when they defeated the Edmonton Oilers, 3-1, in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Final on June 19, 2006. He was also named a finalist for the Jack Adams Trophy as NHL Coach of the Year in 2006.

Even though I think this move was completely necessary I’m still shocked that the Flyers actually fired Stevens.  The team had lost 6 of 7 games and you can say well they had a tough west cost trip where they played some damm good teams, but at the same time this isn’t the first time we’ve had a losing streak like that while Stevens has been here.  I don’t think you can completely blame Stevens for the losing though, Holmgren went out and got Pronger and Emery in the off season and even though they have had their moments neither one of them has played amazing.  You also have to look at all the firepower this team has Carter, Richards, Hartnell,  the list goes on, their just not getting the job done.  I think Laviolette will turn this team around in about a week or two it will be tough for him at first trying to figure out which guys play better with certain guys on lines and such, but I do believe hes the right choice for the job I don’t know if you could of found a better unemployed coach out there.  This team has way too much talent to be hovering around 9th in the East they’ll get it together its just going to take some time. ENJOY IT!
