COULD COLE BE BACK TO 2008 FORM?

September 2nd, 2009 admin No comments

cole hamelsPHILADELPHIA (AP) -All Cole Hamels had to do to regain his dominant form was stop trying to be too perfect.  Hamels pitched a two-hitter, Ryan Howard drove in the only run with a fourth-inning double and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants 1-0 on Tuesday night.  Hamels (8-8) allowed a leadoff double to Ryan Garko in the second inning and a single to pinch-hitter Rich Aurilia to start the ninth. He struck out nine and walked one in his fourth career shutout and second this season. The left-hander extended his scoreless innings streak to 19, tying a career best, and won for the first time since July 28 against Arizona.

Is Cole Hamels back to being the Cole Hamels we remember from the 2008 postseason?  I think so.  The guy hasnt allowed a run in 19 straight innings hes obviously made adjustments to his game and realised what he has been doing wrong all season.  If the Phils go into the playoffs this season with The great Cliff Lee as the ace, Hamels the way hes pitching now, Happ and Blanton they are going to be very hard to beat.  The Phil’s lineup is arguably the best in the N.L. , but everybody knows pitching wins in the postseason and the way Cole has been pitching has to have everybody excited with the postseason right around the corner.
