Late Wednesday night it was announced that the Memphis Tigers basketball program would be forced to vacate their record 38 wins from the 2007-2008 season.  The report was that someone took the SAT exam for a player (Derrick Rose) on the team. 

This hurts me alot.  For those close to me, they know I was a HUGE backer of this team months before the college hoops season started, and I came 2 seconds away from having an amazing prediction.  But thats besides the point…So I understand that Memphis broke a rule, or violated some rule that I probably never heard of.  So they put it in great terms so we all know what they did wrong…basically Rose was playing for the team illegally. 

Now do they deserve to be punished, absolutely…but to forfeit that entire season, that seems like a bit much.  Obviously I’m jumping sports here but you mean to tell me that Barry Bonds, who is the all time leader in Home Runs, who has been linked to using PED’s, only has to worry about his records being asteriskcized (I don’t know if that’s a word, but if it’s not I’m claiming rights).  This just seems way too harsh.  Granite I’m a bit bias here because of my huge crush on this team…but it’s my blog so deal with it.

Villanova coach Jay Wright suspended Senior guard Reggie Redding for the fall semester after being charged with possession of marijuana.  Redding will be eligible to return to the team in Decemeber at the earliest.

Reddings a nice little piece in the Nova puzzle.  Not a standout guy, but can start, can come off the bench and play his part.  This isn’t a huge blow but they sure will miss his leadership pressence on a fairly young team.  Nova has 3 great Freshman coming in…pg Maalik Wayns, and forwards Isaiah Armwood and Mouphtaou Yarou.  Don’t expect them to come in and contribute right away but a few of these kids could see their way to big minutes come down the stretch.
